Elephant Safaris South Africa
The following emotional, moving and rather touching elephant back safaris and interaction experiences and options are available from the Kwa Madwala Private Game Reserve in Mpumalanga South Africa (close to Kruger National Park)
The One Hour Elephant walk: The experience incorporates a walk through the bush where clients can interact with the elephants and the natural environment simultaneously. The walk can be tailored to your personal energy levels in terms of how fast or slow you wish to walk. A great way to combine a walking safari with a close encounter and lifetime experience with African elephants. Rate – R700-00 per person.
The One Hour Elephant Back Safari: This is an Elephant Back Safari including a game viewing experience through the bush. It includes an opportunity to interact, ride and view game from the backs of our two African elephant. We saddle up and go for a ride in the bush in search of the many species of game which inhabit the reserve. Rate: R800-00 per person
The Two Hour Elephant Back Safari: This again includes a game viewing experience through the bush. The elephants are at your disposal and the time is yours. The ride is generally more rewarding in terms of animal sightings in comparison to the one hour Elephant Back Safari. In this experience, quite some distance is covered and the chance to see a variety of game is good. We get close to impala, kudu, waterbuck, giraffe, warthog and sometimes even rhino and elephant. And yes, we have passed the lions on occasion too! Rate: R1400-00 per person
Elephant Interaction Experiences
Kwa Madwala has recently restructured their Elephant experiences so that they are more natural than ever before. We want our two conditioned elephants to be and act like elephants at all times albeit under human supervision. We have thus reduced the interaction experiences to certain times daily and are operating eighty percent of all activities in the bush where we believe the best operational comfort zone and environment for our elephants exists. This compliments Nature Conservation Authority’s vision and is as close to our two friends, Tswali and Mojaji’s natural lifestyle as possible.
Morning Elephant experiences are conducted between 6.00am and 9.00am in summer and between 7.00am and 10.00am in winter. Afternoon Elephant experiences are conducted between 3.30pm and 6.30pm in summer and between 2.30pm and 5.30pm in winter.
- Summer months are: 1 November to 31 March
- Winter months are: 1 April to 30 October
With the exception of the interaction experience, our guests start all elephant experiences with a 10 minute “meet and greet” introduction to Tswali and Mojaji which takes place on arrival.
All elephant experiences commence with a safety talk and a briefing on the do’s and don’ts.
Safari Adventure Centre
The elephants are based at purposely built stables in the reserve adjacent to the Safari Adventure Centre and about 5 min drive from the Manyatta Rock Camp or 2 min drive from the other camps in the reserve. An on-site complimentary transfer service is available to and from the Elephant Safaris operation for clients staying at any of the camps in the reserve and day visitors are requested to go directly to the Safari Adventure Centre from the main gate.
The Half Hour Elephant Interaction: This activity includes a feel, touch, sense and talk experience with these highly intelligent creatures.
We do a short introduction including an explanation on where the elephants come from and their history as well as the exceptional training concepts and techniques used. Thereafter we meet the elephants, one by one.
We explain more about the anatomy, and play games to demonstrate how the elephants make use of their senses. We have games to demonstrate smell, memory and playing with each other. We ask the elephants to sleep, and guests get to touch and feel the elephant from front to back. This is trust as you’ve never experienced it before. Rate: R450-00 per person
The One Hour Elephant Interaction Experience: Similar to the shorter half hour interaction experience a deeper knowledge of elephants is shared by the elephant stable master and his specialised team of staff on site. This is an exceptional educational experience for anyone wanting to add to his knowledge on African elephants and their various character traits. Rate: R700-00 per person.
Our resident stable master, Amos is an extraordinary man whose special talent with African Elephants goes way beyond what many have termed impossible in the past.
The experiences are highly recommended to anyone who would like to experience up close and personal encounters combined with the best possible education of African Elephants available on earth.
Enjoy these extremely intelligent giants of the South African bush with any one of our interactive experiences or on an elephant back safari!
